A total of 475 flood-affected families in the remote Char Shushua village of the Jamuna River in Tangail have received emergency relief aid as part of humanitarian assistance after being waterlogged for an extended period.
The relief was provided under the project titled “Emergency Relief Assistance for Flood-Affected People of Char Shushua”, funded by the international donor organization Human Concern International (HCI) and implemented by the non-governmental development organization Sushilan.
Each family received 25 kg of rice, 5 kg of lentils, 3 liters of soybean oil, 2 kg of salt, 5 kg of flour, 5 kg of potatoes, 1 kg of detergent powder, 4 bathing soaps, a 20-liter water jar, 2 kg of sugar, 50 oral saline packets, 1 pack of sanitary napkins, mixed spices, and 1 strip of water purification tablets.
The relief distribution ceremony was held at 10 a.m. on Friday (October 10) at the premises of the Shushua Welfare Association office.
The event was attended by Mostafa Bakuluzzaman, Deputy Director of Sushilan; Md. Delwar Hossain, Accounts Officer; Kazi Faisal Kabir, Monitoring Officer; Md. Ariful Islam, Project Coordinator; Md. Naimul Islam, Compliance Officer (Bangladesh) of Human Concern International; and Md. Mominur Rahman, President of Shushua Welfare Association, along with local dignitaries, students, and guardians.
Beneficiaries stated that the early and prolonged flooding of the Jamuna River this year has caused extensive crop damage in Char Shushua. In such a difficult time, the relief assistance provided by Human Concern International and Sushilan has brought much-needed relief and comfort to the affected families.
